Continuing a great series

30,000B.C. Tuscany is a fantastic follow-up to the first book in the series, Bordeaux. It picks up the plot and quickly gets intense dealing with the devilish Lorenzo and his plans for "world domination"! The imagery of the land sparks the imagination, and the psychology presented in dealing with the tribes and newcomers is fascinating. The author truly makes his characters come to life, whether you love them or hate them. It is rare to find such well developed characters that can spark such emotion when reading. The story seems to reach a crescendo when a new developement is suddenly dropped into the picture- I mean cave drawings. I am going to have to re-read the first two while patiently waiting to see what happens in the ever changing world of Grey Beard. Wish I had my own time machine to find out!

Right the wrong.

There will always be a bad apple in the bunch to spoil the rest, if we let it. This book told of how to mop up the damages that was created by the crazed "Lord Lorenzo". The downfall of Lorenzo was created by himself by being sadistic to the end. The natives at that time didn't have the comprehension of the events of the God in which he wanted them to know. They knew one thing. If you didn't pay attention there would be consequences, The Doctor had the right idea. If you mess with the pass, the outcomes will affect the future. I would recommend this book to those you like fiction about the cavemen period. I like reading fiction that has several books and continuance of the story. I'm looking forward to the third book.

Fast paced & gripping read!

I have been anxiously awaiting the second book in the 30,000 BC Chronicles series and Tuscany did not disappoint. I have to admit that I stayed up most of the night reading, unable to put it down. The strong central characters are developing nicely, allowing the reader to be more vested in them. The religious zealot, Martinelli, drives the action for a good portion of the book, giving the author a chance to examine the nature of cults as seen through the eyes of the believers and non-believers. Maria Duarte is a strong female protagonist and I look forward to more from her in future books. Thayer achieves a nice balance of storytelling and philosophizing, which is refreshing in this genre. It's both an adventure story and a treatise on human nature.
Again, the descriptors are so vivid, it is not difficult to see the book as a large screen movie. I even found myself casting the characters in my head.
The author ties up loose ends in this book, so it is not the cliffhanger the first one was, yet he sets the stage for further explorations in the future. The reader definitely is immersed in the era, yet with the convenience of interpreting through the eyes and voices of 23rd century visitors. I recommend both books as wonderful escapist literature with thought provoking ideas to enrich the reading experience.
Both Bordeaux and Tuscany are very satisfying reads; definitely worth buying!
