Good Book!

This book was perfect for me. I recently discovered issues with parasites in my reptiles. After purchasing this book my understanding of parasites and the treatment of these creatures grew incredibly. The recommended drugs table is one of the best features inside. Not only will this book help you identify parasites in but it list primary and even some secondary medications to use. Explanations of how these medications work and their dosages are given as well. This is a good book for anyone wanting to learn more about treating parasites in reptiles. The only thing that is missing is the life cycles of the parasites mentioned. However some parasite life cycles aren't completely understood be science.

It is essential that anyone who keeps reptiles owns this book. It's well written and very informative. The author went out of his way to make it easy to understand. I am very happy with it and wish all books were as useful

Great book, had accident during shipping?

The book itself is GREAT, and now that I have it, I can't wait to start testing my reptiles for parasites, because I'll actually be able to identify them.
However, I think the package itself had an accident during shipping. Halfway down the spine is a DEEP crack, and I get the feeling that the book got almost folded in two during transport. The book is otherwise kinda wrinkly, but it still opens, and it still reads fine. So all in all, I don't honestly mind. It's kinda like it has a ripped hole in the middle of the spine, but it's still legible, and I honestly don't think it's the seller's fault. I really blame USPS on this one, because I think this would have taken a lot of force to do, since this is a thin but sturdy book. And yeah, I guess the packaging itself could have been stronger, to protect the book better, but I still think that the lightweight package was better than the other, smaller book I got from somewhere else that got shipped in a HUGE box full of evil packing peanuts!
I don't really have any problem with this book's condition. I've got it sitting under some other heavy books to flatten it out, so it should be fine!

About the Author
Kate Ellis was born and brought up in Liverpool and she studied drama in Manchester. Crime and mystery stories have always fascinated her, as have medieval history and archaeology which she likes to incorporate in her books. She lives in North Cheshire, England, with her husband, two sons and an overweight cat called Vivaldi!

Loving the series

I just started this series about a year ago. I had to order the books in the order in which they were written, glad I did. The series is a great sit down on a rainy day with fire place and tea. I hope the series will continue as the Wesley series has.

Watching the Ghosts

A small child is kidnapped apparently under her mother's nose. A burglar is going round piling up furniture against his victims' front doors so that he can make a quick getaway through the back door if the owners of the property suddenly arrive home. Lydia has just moved into a newly converted flat in what was a mental hospital in the historic city of Eborby and is troubled by nightmares which feature a malevolent clock. DI Joe Plantagenet and his boss, DCI Emily Thwaite are trying to keep a lid on the crime rate.

If you add into the mix a university researcher who has found something evil and a man with an obsession with a serial killer the result is spine chilling and a frightening read. This is a fast paced and well written story with more than a hint of supernatural happenings which make the hairs on the back of the reader's neck stand on end. I got close to the end of the book quite late last night but made myself leave the last three chapters until daylight!

I like the police characters in this series - Joe, with his troubled past and his current loneliness, Emily trying to juggle a hectic job and family life; I also like George Merryweather - the clergyman with the job of dealing with supernatural happenings. The background of the ancient city with its narrow streets and chequered past gives an added frisson to this series which mixes ghostly happenings with crime which is all too real and substantial.

Cursed...in love?

I understand this is the first of a series, this one being about Colton. See, Colton has huge task ahead of him: break the curse afflicting the Edgeworth men and in the process...keep his heart intact.

Impossible! Especially when he lays on Avalyn.

Long, long ago, Colton's great-great grandpa ticked off the wrong woman. The result is that the Edgeworth men will never have luck in love. They get their hearts broken, they get divorced, or their wives die as soon as they have children. Happiness is just not meant to be, unless Colton can Avalyn to break the curse, but Avalyn's grandmother keeps warning her away from Colton.

When they finally hook up, how is Avalyn supposed to know that Colton loves HER and isn't just trying to get the curse broken? Will she stick around to listen?

Very well written, engaging, and the banter between the hero and heroine was just sweet and heartwarming. I could feel the conflict come off the page. I think my favorite parts consisted of Colton's grandpa and Avalyn's grandmother though. Those old folks cracked me up a time or two. :)

I love this author, but

This book starts off really well and I enjoyed much of the book, but midway though the book things get slow to the point that it was hard for me to continue.

Maybe its because I couldn't relate to Avalyn. She was so passive and boring (in my opinion) with no sass or spark.

Colton was supposed to be her perfect match; witty, charming, sexy, but I never got that from him. He just seemed like an okay country boy to me (sorry, I'm married to a fantastic country boy, so maybe I'm used to his style).

The good:
Colton's family supplies some much needed levity to the book.

The bad:
Slow pacing of the book. I think maybe it was meant to feel like the relaxed pace of the Southern small town lifestyle, but it just felt flat to me.

Overall this book just felt kind of "blah"

I really love Shyla Colt and will continue to read her books, this just wasn't for me.

Cursed is a good start to Shyla's new series. I predominately liked it, but the way they split up is what caused me to give it a four star. Had it not seemed juvenile and ridiculous to me or there at least would have been a stronger reason for why the heroine suddenly broke up with the hero I would have absolutely loved the book.

When the west was REALLY wild.

This volume 1 discusses Daniel Boone, Davy Crockett and Kit Carson. Although it was written in 1888, there are some interesting anecdotes and lesser known stories that the reader may not have heard before. I learned something new about each of the characters. I do caution that due to the time in which these accounts were written, some of the actions and activities recorded have since proven to be inaccurate. Still, overall an interesting book written by Buffalo Bill based on the best information available at the time and designed to promote the early leaders of the western movement.

PREFACE

The lectures included in this volume were prepared at the request of the Brooklyn Institute of Arts and Sciences, and were delivered in the early part of 1912, under its auspices. They were suggested by the tercentenary of the King James version of the Bible. The plan adopted led to a restatement of the history which prepared for the version, and of that which produced it. It was natural next to point out its principal characteristics as a piece of literature. Two lectures followed, noting its influence on literature and on history. The course closed with a statement and argument regarding the place of the Bible in the life of to-day.
The reception accorded the lectures at the time of their public delivery, and the discussion which ensued upon some of the points raised, encourage the hope that they may be more widely useful.
It is a pleasure to assign to Dr. Franklin W. Hooper, director of the Institute, whatever credit the work may merit. Certainly it would not have been undertaken without his kindly urgency.

PLEASE NOTE: THIS REVIEW REFERS **SOLELY** TO "DEVIL'S DUE".

I bought "Enthralled", the anthology containing stories by Lora Leigh, Alyssa Day, Maljean Brook and Lucy Monroe in the print edition, basically because I couldn't wait to have it in my hot little hands on release day for the Breed story, Devil's Due. Was "Devil's Due" worth almost $10? N.O. Okay, okay, so it's 25% of the book, so was it worth $2.50? Big ole N.O. Was I pissed as all get-out when I finished it? You better believe it!!

On its own merits, the Breed story of "Devil's Due" is okay. Parts of it remind me of bits & pieces of "Soul Deep" & other stories (not knowing what the onset of mating heat was; the "uncomfortable" car ride; etc...). There is also something else I have noticed about ALL Lora Leigh stories (Breed, Nauti Boys, Sins, Nauti Girls, etc...) -- at times it seems like she's phoning it in with the sex scenes. I know that in my former "real life" (aka - when I had a paying job where I was appreciated) I used to write contracts, and it got to the point I had a file with "standard" issues in it that I'd just cut & paste & plunk into the appropriate spots. I often feel when I read how the man is going to make the woman "burn brighter and hotter" one more time, I will just have to SCREAM. The same phrases cut across ALL of her writings and it gets annoying. Quite frankly, there are times I wish she'd simply stick to the mythology of the different stories and just drop trying to put in "x" amount of sex scenes.

Now that you think I'm a LL Hater -- nope, not in the least! I will continue to purchase her stories; I'm just not thrilled with this one. I felt it was a forced story and quite frankly, it seemed as if it was simply a back story for the foundation of whatever is coming Cassie's way. Too much of the Breed mating/love story of Devil & Katie was interrupted by prepping & moving forward Cassie's story. If Cassie's story isn't next (& unfortunately, it doesn't appear to be) it's just going to make the whole Breed mythology aggravating. Too much mysticism; not enough story. I hope this isn't a precursor of the style of the next (hopefully full length) story.
